Last Wednesday, the Calgary Aboriginal Urban Affairs Committee presented a ground-breaking Indigenous framework and policy for the City of Calgary.
BOWEN’s Indigenous Consulting Services partner Sandi Morrisseau was one of the collaborators on the Indigenous framework, a project two years in the making. We’re thrilled to see Sandi’s commitment to community driving real outcomes for our city.
In recent years, the City expressed a commitment to reconciliation with the Indigenous community to acknowledge the wrongs of the past and build a better path forward together. The Indigenous framework provides a foundation to bridge the City’s planning and decision making with input from Treaty 7 Nations.
The report garnered high praise from City counsellors; Ward 9 Councillor Gian-Carlo Carra called it the best report to ever come out of the City and “essential reading, for every Calgarian.” (Calgary Herald, 2017)
As one of Canada’s leading contractor management and recruitment companies, we recognize the importance of working with Indigenous people to achieve mutual success. We believe that a commitment to diversity is not only a social imperative in today’s global economy, but a philosophy that can truly elevate what we can do together and represents a competitive advantage for the clients we work with.
