Shannon Bowen-Smed, CEO
Shannon inspires BOWEN’s mission of making people matter every day.
In 1984, Shannon joined BOWEN as a Receptionist and worked her way up the ranks, becoming the CEO in 1996. She has helped grow the company from an employment agency to an industry leader in recruitment solutions and contingent workforce management strategies, offering a wide array of human capital strategies from coast to coast. Over the past 35 years, she has honed her skills in a variety of roles within the company including administration, recruiting, sales, marketing, HR and operations.
Shannon is deeply embedded in the community. She’s currently a Board Member of Calgary Economic Development, Member of the Board of Trustees for the Calgary Zoo, Co-Chair of YWCA’s Hub Capital Campaign, and is a part of WXN Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Advisory Board.
She’s also highly accomplished and recognized in the Canadian workforce. Most recently Shannon was the recipient of the 2018 Women Business Enterprise of the Year, a 2016 PROFIT/Chatelaine Top 100 Female Entrepreneur and 2015 EY Entrepreneur of the Year.
Debbie Wershler, P. Geol, President
Mid-career, Debbie took a detour from her profession as an oil & gas geologist to make people the heart of every business.
Debbie champions BOWEN’s strategic processes. For 15 years, she has led BOWEN’s recruitment, contract management and outsourced HR solutions policies and operations. She’s well-versed in Canadian employment law and regulatory framework and spearheaded the development of BOWEN’s Health and Safety program to become COR certified.
With more than 30 years of oil and gas industry experience, Debbie has been actively delivering strategic contingent workforce management services to local, national and global companies operating in the energy sector.
Debbie holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Calgary.
Jeffrey Bowen, BSc, VP, Information Services & Service Solutions
Jeffrey drives transformation at BOWEN, heading up our Information Services and Service Solutions departments.
Jeffrey leads a team of dedicated experts to help the organization and its clients create scalable solutions, build strategic relationships and gain operating efficiencies with cutting-edge services and technology. With a career that spans almost 20 years, Jeffrey brings considerable experience to BOWEN’s clients in operations, project management, IT strategy and leadership.
For the past 20 years, Jeffrey has worn several hats at BOWEN and is instrumental in the success of the organization’s continued growth. Jeffrey leads the company’s service and technology plans, and has held roles of increasing responsibility from support and training to oversight and strategy.
Jeffrey holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems from the DeVry Institute of Technology.
A belief in systems thinking and scalability guides Barry’s leadership at BOWEN.
Barry heads up the Finance and Accounting teams in efficiently and effectively powering BOWEN and its clients forward. A creative problem-solver with a strong client-service orientation, Barry oversees the execution of our financial operations and provides strategic financial leadership to our team.
With 20 years of experience in finance and accounting roles, Barry brings a wealth of knowledge to the company. His experience includes a history of working with startups and some of the world’s largest IT and software companies.
Barry holds a Bachelor of Business Studies from Dublin City University, is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in Ireland (FCCA, Ireland).
Julian Hallett, BBA, Director, Corporate Development
As head of Corporate Development, Julian shares BOWEN’s vision for making people matter.
Julian is passionate about introducing businesses to people strategies that enhance workplaces and help them address unsolved business problems. He’s known for building strong relationships and helping BOWEN clients achieve results.
His background includes more than 16 years working in business development, account management and sales roles with experience in technology, promotional and entertainment industries.
Julian holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from SAIT and the University of Lethbridge.
Maurino Pacheco, Director, Indigenous Solutions
Maurino is committed to bridging the gap between Indigenous workers and corporate Canada with employment opportunities as the Director of Indigenous Solutions.
Maurino connects Indigenous communities and corporate businesses seeking opportunities. He is continually working to create mutually advantageous partnerships to bring corporations skilled, diverse talent and get Indigenous communities to the workplace.
He has been an entrepreneur since day one. His background includes more than 30 years of business ownership, account management, marketing and sales experience with more than 15 years in the recruiting industry.
Maurino studied Business Administration at Grant MacEwan University.
Caileigh McPherson, BA, BSc, Manager, Recruitment
As the Manager of Recruitment, Caileigh champions our candidate experiences with a strong belief in relationships and customer service.
Joining BOWEN more than five years ago, Caileigh leads a team of recruiters dedicated to finding top talent for our clients. Caileigh has held several different roles throughout her tenure, including a specialized position in technical and field recruitment for the energy sector.
Previously living and working in Fort McMurray, Caileigh has a unique perspective and understanding of the Northern employment market and has had the opportunity to serve our clients in those geographical regions. With a passion for service excellence and making the right “match” for candidates and clients, Caileigh guides the recruitment team in going above and beyond.
Caileigh holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology and a Certification in Human Resources Management, all from the University of Calgary.
Tiffany Pearsall, Manager, Contracts
Tiffany is one of BOWEN’s labour force, contract and law experts.
She heads up our Contingent Workforce Management team with her insight working at onsite oil and gas field operations for 14 years.
In this position, Tiffany leads a team responsible for overseeing the health and safety, corporate contracting strategies, risk management and performance management of contingent workforce management and outsourced HR solutions. She’s a change agent and advocate within the client community for contractor management outsourcing, having led the initiative within various oil & gas organizations.
Tiffany holds a Diploma in Supply Chain Management from SAIT, a Contract Management Certificate and Contract Management Business Law Certificate from Mount Royal University and has completed numerous courses in contracting and contract law.
Roni Furgeson, DBA, Office Manager
Roni is the energy that keeps BOWEN going above and beyond.
As the Office Manager at BOWEN, Roni brings individuals together to harness the power of people.
With more than 15 years of office management experience, Roni leads the Corporate Administration team to deliver HR operations and office procedures. Her expertise provides BOWEN and its clients with the tools necessary to overcome complex problems with innovative solutions. Whether it’s through correspondence or support, Roni makes sure each individual BOWEN works with is cared for.
Roni holds a Diploma of Business Administration in Marketing from Mount Royal University.
